Developing an Entrepreneurial mindset Part Eleven

entrepreneurial mindset

If people are around unchecked negativity all the time, their self-talk will tend to be negative, as well. The importance of self- talk is also mentioned in the Bible: “As a man thinketh, so is he.” Or, as Jim Rohn said in his Achieving Excellence series, “Don’t become a victim of yourself. Forget about the thief in the alley; what about the thief in your mind?” Or, “Happiness is not an accident, nor is it something you wish for—happiness is something you design.”

Truly knowing what you want is just as important as a positive mindset. People don’t get what they want in life because they don’t know what they want, or they spend a majority of their time thinking about what they don’t have or can’t do.

Clarifying what you really want in life is essential. It gives you the ability to act. It’s not what you don’t know that halts success— it’s what you know that isn't fully developed yet. Become aware of who you are not and then go to work on who you are. Do you continually assess or evaluate your beliefs or habits? If your beliefs are empowering, then you need to keep them. If your beliefs are disempowering, then you need to let them go. It’s very important that you continue to unlearn your old harmful beliefs and replace them with new positive ones.

A few years back, I was very frustrated with someone and was venting my thoughts while cooking dinner. After about three minutes of listening to me complain, Sabrina said, “Dad, would you agree that no one can control your emotions without your consent?”

“Yeah, why?” I said, a puzzled look on my face.

“Well, you know, Dad, you control your thoughts and your feelings, so you can either keep complaining and stay frustrated, or you can choose to think about something happy and allow your inner-happiness to come out.”

My daughter was telling me to grow up. And I'd just been getting started. I was even starting to feel righteous about being angry at the person, yet that person had no clue he had even done anything wrong. Thanks to my very wise daughter, I hit the rewind button, edited out the angry thoughts, and replaced them with happy, funny thoughts. Then I pushed the play button. I disassociated from what was going on in my mind (my mental chatter) so that I could review it from a distance. It was my choice to hold on to my anger and frustration or replace them with more pleasant thoughts and words.

You need to reframe the past and reprogram it with the belief that will move you toward what you want. While growing your self-esteem, if you choose to neglect one aspect or belief, that will be the one that gets in the way.

Your beliefs are blueprints like those that provide the design for a house. Your beliefs provide the design for your future. What is your money and success blueprint? Remember, your thoughts lead to feelings, your feelings lead to actions, and your actions lead to results. You have many different blueprints. It's up to you to design your desired blueprint for success.
